That would be great too, of course.  However, I'm running at least three
boxes that do not have wget installed by default even though they do have
expect.  In any case, I'd recommend to use expect so that he can learn how
to write a script using it... just for learning's sake.  But, your
approach is definitely the one that makes sense if the priority is only to
get it working.  No doubt about that.
