Strange problem on a fairly vanilla RH 6.2 (upgraded from 5.2) installation,
using plain vanilla gnome desktop as installed with no modification (except
adding a few personal applications to the gnome menu).

Whenever I put in a CDROM, the stupid (how I despise it!) automounter
mounts it for me, then I get a warning box and a loud crashing sound
from my speakers. the warning box says:

"Could not symlink /fd0 to /home/fredex/.gnome-desktop/fd0; will
not have such a desktip icon"

I'm not going anywhere NEAR /fd0, why is it doing this? Same thing happens
when I force a umount of the cdrom.

I'd be happy to just kill off the doggone gnome automount feature, how
do I do that? I'm not a Windoze lover, I'm perfectly capable of and
comfortable with mounting the drive myself when I wanted it mounted
and not when I don't.

Thanx!

Fred
