I find, from time to time, that I enter a valid user and password and
get bounced back to the graphical login screen. Second time usually
works. Also, as this is happening, the login process seems to be
slowing down. I can correct this behavior by resetting session
management under gnome. Look in the gnome online manual for specifics.
Apart from this, keep your temp files cleaned up.
