A) So what if he runs as root, its not what he asked.
B) if your system locks, Ctrl-Alt-F2 won't save you.
C) neither will telnet
Why not concentrate on telling him how to interpret the
fsck info, or how to recreate his X setup files, instead
of climbing onto a pile of soap crates?
