That'd be my guess, anyway. You weren't using some X client, were
you? Obviously, you can ftp, shell login, etc, but samba is the
easiest way I know of for a windoze environment. I even use it
between linux boxes (just because it's already there, and I've
never setup NFS before). It sounds like it's very similar to smb,
with it's own set of problems; I think you just mount a remote NFS
share just like you would an smb share on Linux. I think there's a
couple basic NFS clients in the windoze networking stuff, but I
don't know if they work.
