I have an HP Laserjet 5MP that was easy to setup using it's LED menu
(tedious) and Red Hat's printtool. I just called it a raw LPD print
queue in printtool and set the printer to log to the print server.
Syslogd does not accept logging from external hosts by default, so
you'll have to enable that in the syslogd init script if you want it and
your printer supports it.
The printer is shared via Samba and lpd to other boxes on the network.
