Hello,
After configuring the USR 5610 modem under RedHat 6.0 successfully (thanks
to everybody that helped), now I have couple of PPP related questions.
I used netcfg to setup PPP parameters. I entered phone#, user name,
password, DNS addresses, etc... At the end, I activated the newly set
PPP0. Then nothing happened. To test whether PPP is established, I tried
ping <DNS address of my ISP>. It says "Network is unreachable".
Then I tried minicom to figure out exact steps that my ISP uses for login
process (to be able to add any Expect-Send pairs to my PPP settings). Here
is what happened.
1. Modem dials in and connects to the ISP (I get: CONNECT
26400/ARQ/V34/LAPM/V42BI5)
2. After a while, I get a confirmation message from the server that now I
am connected to their modem pool etc etc..
3. Then a prompt comes: annex Selection:
4. If I type PPP, it says "switching to PPP" and I start to see garbage
that indicates the communication.
Now, what sort of Expect-Send pair I should add to my PPP settings (or
should I add one)?
I never get login and password prompts when I use minicom to dial in? Does
this indicate that my ISP uses PAP?
Lastly, what do you think is wrong in this setup?
Thanks a lot for your help.

PS: One more thing... After I entered a host name in the netcfg, every
time I log in (as a root or user), I get the following:
"Could not look up internet address for dial-up. This will prevent GNOME
from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by
adding dial-up to the file /etc/hosts" Then I hit continue and log in....
Any idea why I am getting this, how to get rid of it...
