If I recall correctly, RH 5.2 had the table of VESA modelines.  So, to 
specify your monitor you need to edit the XF86Config file and change the
specification for your monitor, and make sure your monitor is specified in
the display section

For example, for your monitor, here's what I'd use based on #'s pulled
from Viewsonic's web site:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier  "WhateverYouWant"
    VendorName  "Viewsonic"
    ModelName   "PF790"
    HorizSync   30-97
    VertRefresh 50-160
# what follows is the list of modelines -- I can't help w/a custom one
End Section

Then, in the Screen sections, make sure the "Monitor" line in each
Screen section matches the Identifier you used in the Monitor section.
