Don't forget the "grep".  The system wouldn't accept that command you
typed.  In any case, yes, it should apply to anything.  For example, I
installed Red Hat 6.2 in one of my boxes, and I know I didn't install
neither wu-ftpd nor the telnet server.  This is what I get:

[jortega@coimbra tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep ftp
ftp-0.16-3
gftp-2.0.6a-3
ncftp-3.0beta21-4

[jortega@coimbra tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep telnet
telnet-0.16-6
[jortega@coimbra tmp]$ 


Keep in mind that even though I did not install the daemons, I did install
the client packages which _do_ show on the list...
