Use yp. Make sure this machine is firewalled away from the internet.
YP isn't too difficult to set up, there's a HOWTO available. I believe
that linuxconf can be used to configure the clients. Using YP, all your
linux machines authenticate against the YP server, keeping passwords,
usernames, and UID's consistant across an entire network. If you have
to use nfs, YP is a good addition.
