For a learning system, I'd install everything. There are lots of
server-related features that are not included in the "Workstation" install
option. You will need to setup some security before connecting to the
Internet. At a minimum, turn off unneeded services in /etc/inetd.conf and
configure inetd security using /etc/hosts.deny:

  ALL : ALL

and /etc/hosts.allow:

  ALL : LOCAL
