Hi,
Is anyone having trouble with older scsi zip drives and the new
2.2.16-3.i686 kernel? My external 100mb drive would hang with scsi bus
resets, and I assumed my drive was finally failing. Now after a lot of
hardware swapping, the problem persists after testing 3 controllers, 3
cables, and 2 different zip drives; however, booting with the original
2.2.14-5.0 kernel solves it. (Naturally I assumed it was hardware at first
;-)
I'm using an adaptec 2940UW [default bios settings], and have also
reproduced it with an Adaptec 2903B (aic-7850, uses the same kernel
module). I have an old 1542cp I could try but I'd have to pull the sound
card.
Access to UW hard disks is fine, and short commands to the zip work but
longer ones cause the entire bus to hang (for example, "fdisk -l /dev/sdc"
works, but "mke2fs /dev/sdc1" will hang).
MB is Asus P3B-F with pent.III-500; both ide and scsi hard drives.
Thanks,
