I have 2 machines, both installed from a RH 6.1 CD. Both report the
same package number for perl, and both have Build Date: Mon 30 Aug
1999 11:13:44

However, the one on the dual CPU machine reports in perl -V
Characteristics of this binary (from libperl):
  Built under linux
  Compiled at Jan 31 2000 14:21:41
  @INC:
    /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/i686-linux
    /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503
    /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i686-linux
    /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005

And the old P5 reports:
Characteristics of this binary (from libperl):
  Built under linux
  Compiled at Aug 30 1999 23:09:51
  @INC:
    /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/i386-linux
    /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503
    /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i386-linux
    /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005

What has caused this (and other) differences in the perl install?
This difference has been giving me major pains, until I found this
out. While the knowledge doesn't ease the pains, it does make the
source apparent. To the best of my knowledge, perl was NOT recompiled
on the dual CPU, but the compile timestamps in the -V indicate
otherwise.

Help!?

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.
