Actually it sounds like it MAY be a scan-rate problem. I'd say that
probably the sync rate for either vertical or horizontal (most likely
the H refresh rate) is out of spec wrt the monitor's specs. What
you'll likely end up having to do is reconfigure the monitor specs
for a slightly more conservative setting wrt the refresh rates. This
likely means you're going to have to manually configure the monitor
specs in X, but it'll likely take care of the problem.
