You will not have TrueType support with 5.2 xfs AFAIK. Unless, at some
point this was updated in RH RPMs to support this, which I doubt. If
TrueType is the ultimate goal here, look into xftt, or xfsft. Check
freshmeat, etc. or links on the above page.

Strange. What does 'which xfs' show?

Definitely not running.

Something is broken. The PIDs get saved during the start up process so
that restarting, stopping will work. I would say this is bogus info,
and trust ps in this case.

Me neither, unless you restarted this twice, and the init script is
fubar (sounds like it). Probably some error was encountered during
startup, and the init script logic wasn't able to catch it, and give
an appropriate response. Sh*t happens.
