I'm not big on using the stock RedHat kernels.. I prefer to use kernels
tuned to my hardware, without the extras that RedHat builds in...
On my home PC, I need to use the CD/DVD patches, the new IDE patches,
ReiserFS, and I wanted USB support, so the USB backport patch. That's
where this whole thing started.
Then I took a look inside RHAT's srpm for 2.2.16 and found a TON of
patches, some of which are pretty useful, like the server-tuning,
rawio, new-raid, bigmem, PIII and aic7xxx patches, so I kept patching.
After successfully patching out the wazoo, I diff'd against a pristine
source tree and came up with what I dubbed "megapatch".
If anyone else wants to try it out, check out:
http://www.jasons.org/megapatch/
You'll find two patches, one that's cd/dvd-ide-reiser-usb, and one that's
everything I mentioned above. These patches MUST be applied to a clean
2.2.16 tree, NOT the sources that RHAT provides..
A word about the emu10k1 patch.. It seems to result in a module that
had a bunch of symbol problems. Grabbing fresh emu10k1 sources from
Creative Labs' CVS resulting in a happy, well-adjusted SB Live!.
