Yes, that's the conclusion I've come to.  The think that's surprising is that I
can move the tar file with KFM, and once it's extracted I can run setup with
KFM.  If only something would extract the file for me.

According to the "Requirements" section of ark (from the KDE family of
packages), GNU Tar and gzip are both utilized by ark.  I can have ark open up
*.tgz and *.tar.gz files w/o a problem.  But if something is only archived and
not gzip'ed, it doesn't recognize it.  Strikes me as odd...
