Don't recall this readme or this comment, sorry. I can tell you it is
not necessary with the one I posted, since I use the identd provided
with RH, and no problems. There are various identd implentations. Not
real familiar with this one, but I suspect it is one that maybe has
some additional features (maybe security related?). Maybe somebody
else can shed some light on that. I personally have not seen identd to
be a real security concern, and suspect this is being recommended for
some supplemental features. In any case, the script works fine without
it AFAICT.
Also, I believe the identd included with RH6.1 had a nasty habit of
spawning, but not killing, identd processes on boxes that were
masquerading through another box. This would eventually choke the box
with 100's of identd processes if not cleaned up manually. Maybe this
is the reason??? Not a problem in RH6.2 BTW.
