My $0.02 is as follows:
I've used both Adaptec and Advansys under Linux. I'm
currently using both in my home machine. Either will work
fine. However, a couple things to keep in mind -- 1)Adaptec
is a relative newcomer to supporting linux. Advansys has
been supporting linux for years, releasing open-source
drivers, etc for linux. 2) Adaptec is going to cost about
twice as much as Advansys for a similar card. Advansys
ain't cheap, but it's certainly less expensive than
Adaptec. Matter of fact, if my current motherboard didn't
come with Adaptec SCSI on-board, I doubt I would be using
Adaptec today. I still have a couple "legacy" 50-pin drives
that I haven't switched over to the new controller yet, so
I still have my Advansys card in the machine.

Thank you. After poking around the Web, Advansys is coming as a strong
candidate;
FreeBSD site just sez ALL cards are supported. Another one that I am reading
currently about is
Tekram, there was a favourable revue on their390U2W which is dirt cheap
compared to the two.

best, Y
