Put the following two lines in the global section of lilo.conf (the global section is everything above the "image" line). password=***** (insert a password up to 8 characters) restricted the restricted line means that the password is asked for only if the user attempts a boot option e.g. boot -1 (for single user boot) Having done the above and saved the file you should change the permissions to 0600 so the file is only readable by root, as the password is stored in plain text. e.g. chmod 0600 /etc/lilo.conf then enable the changes by running /sbin/lilo Come back to me if you have any problems.
