I have an isa modem too. I managed to make it work:
(1) set the jumper right for the port (COM2, or whatever)
(2) disable the PnP OS option in you BIOS so that the BIOS, knowing your
OS is not capble of PNP, will configure the modem to the right IRQ and
etc.
(3) use setserial to looook at the /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyS2, etc and see if
it show s your UART 16550A. You may find two ports with known UART
(16550A)
(4) use minicom to test the port to verify...
(5) good luck.
