If you're investing in RAID, I'd probably go with SCSI.

Hardware RAID, yes.  Software RAID, no.  If you're interested in going the
Mylex route, see my LAME Guide at http://www.linuxninja.com/linux-admin/
which covers this subject.  If you're going the COBRA2 route, you'll only
need to buy an Ultra Wide SCSI adapter (the Adaptec 2940U works great) and
the unit will be seen as one huge disk.

Your RAID level will depend on your application, but you would probably be
pretty happy with RAID 5.  I wouldn't recommend putting your boot or root
file systems in the array.  You could put your /usr/local/..., /home, and
other non-critical areas on the RAID without too much difficulty, though.
