I did not try any RPM's. However, I had good luck building mod_perl from a
tarball. The installation instructions included a section telling you how
to add mod_perl to an existing install of Apache, without recompiling
Apache.
You can get a tarball at:
http://perl.apache.org/dist/mod_perl-1.24.tar.gz
