I am getting my first taste of frustration with linux lately. I had a hard
disk go bad in my notebook so I ordered a replacement to install only linux
on. The problem is that lilo will not come up at boot time.

I partitioned my disk as follows

/dev/hda1   Suspend Partition
/dev/hda2   /
/dev/hda3   swap
/dev/hda4   extended
/dev/hda5   /usr
/dev/hda6   /var
/dev/hda7   /home

I am using the lilo.conf file

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
linear
default=linux

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
        label=linux
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda2

After running lilo at the command prompt I get the message that lilo has
added linux, but upon rebooting the portable states that I need to enter a
boot disk. If I insert the installation CD, reboot and type "linux
root=/dev/hda2 initrd=" at the command prompt the system starts and mounts
all of my partitions.

Also I am running redhat 6.2 and windows 98 SE on my original HD and did not
have any problems, Lilo installed fine.

Just for kicks I decided to try installing Windows and the blasted thing
booted fine after installation. So I tried reinstalling linux to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chad
