Yes and No. Samba is for SMB networking, basically for Windows 
networking. Macintoshes don't do Windows networking without additional 
software, such as DAVE. 

 - To use the built in Macintosh networking software, use Netatalk. 
 - If you already have Samba running and don't want to mess with 
Netatalk, use DAVE 
   and connect via Samba.
