For "usage" I guess you mean analyzing your log files? Then you want
something like analog, webalizer, or any of the many, many such
packages. Something perl-based will (probably) run on both NT and
Linux. I've heard that IIS used to have a problem creating separate
logs. I guess they've fixed that. Otherwise, good luck.
As for "up" time, there's the 'uptime' command in Unix.
But let's assume you want to know how accessible your customer's websites
are from "the Internet". So what you need are sites around "the Internet"
polling your site periodically and depositing their results in a central
location for your analysis. There are several commercial services like
this. I think one that I looked into, called something like web-metrics,
wanted $250/mo or more for each website. The current PC Magazine has an
article that touches on this.
But there is an open-source, free, Perl-based solution that may run on NT
(certainly will run on Linux). The project is hosted on SourceForge but I
don't have the URL handy. If you cannot find it, email me off-list and
I'll dig it up.
