This is PROBABLY true of an "out of the box" install.
However, if you go through and tweak stuff, Linux will be
MUCH more secure than Win9x. Why? Because Linux doesn't try
to be a single-user operating system. Also, if you shut
down and disable services you don't need (Sendmail, pop3,
telnet, rlogin, etc) that closes off ports that would
otherwise be vulnerable. 
Further, unless you're running as "root" out on the 'Net,
there is very little chance that any sort of hostile script
will be able to break your system through poor user
judgement.
