Bill,
        I am not sure exactly what you are after here, but if you want
to log into another computer on your network, you probably want to use
telnet (or ssh, if you have it installed.)  This will let you run any
commands on the remote computer as if you were sitting at it.

        If you just want to be able to look at files, and read them on a
remote computer, you might also want to check out Midnight Commander
(mc).  It has an option to open one pannel on another computer using
ftp, or it's own protocal, if mcserv is running on the remote machine.
