They appear to use PAP authentication, so you need to know how to set up /etc/ppp/pap.secrets. You can use linuxconf to set it up, or you can enter something akin to this: <username>@freewwweb.com ppp0 <password> where <username> is the user name you set up when you sign up for freewww, and <password> is the password you set up at the same time. here in the Boston area, the throughput is horrid. so bad I find it is simply unusable. I've complained to the support desk about it and what I got back (2-3 weeks later) was an email saying they had "resolved" the problem and giving me a long blurb about checking my modem setup. No indication that they got my point which was THEIR NETWORK is horribly congested. As of a few days ago it is still unusably slow. As an experiment I tried dialing one of their out-of-state phone numbers and got much better throughput, though that is of course not a viable alternative for regular use. Good luck!
