You don't have to buy licenses for Linux. Really. You can legally make as
many copies as you like, give them to anyone, install them on as many
machines as you like.
If you have a boxed set, it may include demo packages of proprietary
software with restrictive licenses, but the basic software that comes with
most Linux distros is either GPL <http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html> or
some other non-restrictive license.
