Hi Martin,
AFAIK X does not yet support anti-aliased fonts, which is a shame.
Personally, I found the font handling in XF86 4.0 much improved over 3.3.x,
so you might want to look into that -- TrueType fonts worked instantly e.g.
I'm hoping that the BeOS GUI which renders fonts beautifully will be
available to Linux soon...
