You need to plug into the LAN (I assume through an ethernet card).  You need
to know what ethernet card it is and that it is supported by Linux.  Most
are.  One of many places you can look is the hardware compatibility list on

www.redhat.com

Then you need either a static IP or dhcpd.  I'm sure people here can get you
started with DHCP, I've not used it.

Armed with a static IP, a DNS name (or one you made up, but you may well be
less happy that way), and the IP's of a couple DNS servers, fire up netconf
as root and it will set up everything.  You will then be able to ping
www.yahoo.com, surf, etc.
