Leafnode does. But it also has a downside.

It waits for someone to select a group for subscription. Then it goes and
fetches the message. That means it has to run fetchnews once to get group
listings. Then it has to wait until he selects groups to which he wishes  to
be subscribed. Then it has to run fetchnews again to get the article
headers. Then (unless it is configured differently from the default) it has
to run fetchnews again to get the articles themselves. The last can be
changed. The other limitations can be partially overcome with cron jobs
running fetchnews frequently throughout the day. But getting news won't be
instantaneous.

Through some master scripting (don't ask this klutz for help with this one)
the process could possibly be automated a little better than with running
fetchnews out of cron, say with a cronjob that checked to see it
downloading of articles was necessary.

Nntpcache? I dunno.
