Ok basically here's how it goes:
[root@king apr24]# rpm -ivh XFree86-4.0-0.8.i386.rpm
XFree86
#################################################unpacking
of archive failed on file /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm: cpio: link failed - Bad
file descriptor
Well that's just great. Not only does /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm not exist now
I'm left with a
partially installed XFree86 that never finished installing and thus the
rpmdb was never
updated leaving tons of files unaccounted for. I can deal with that, what
I need to do
is figure out how to get rid of this problem...since xterm does not exist I
do not
understand how there can be a bad file descriptor. I've seen this once or
twice before
and usually remedied the problem by uninstalling an old version of the
package and
trying again. In this case that is not the cause and it's really
frustrating me cause I
need to install X and I can't. Does anyone know I can track down the cause
of this
problem and install XFree86 correctly? All I need to know is how to find
the cause
this and stop it.
Please help :)
