'hatters:

I have a new system here, on which I have just installed rh6.1. (another
laptop)

Strangely, the load is way too high when no apps are running.

with X open, but just sitting there, the load is about 1.5.

I've shut off unused svcs, am getting all the apropriate errata updates,
and it's a fairly capable machine; p300 96M RAM...

Messages shows nothing unusual, but here's a list of odd behaviors which
might give a clue:

cardctl reset makes a kernel panic (hard reset required).

X (running xfce, FWIW) draws things sloooowly.

Netscape cannot display the location or navigation bars. I just get a grey
strip for one, and nothing for the other (and no little 'tab' on that gray
strip, either). I've tried a couple different versions of 4.72 and they all
did this. Whatever version comes with 6.1 didnt have that problem. I
suppose for the time being i could go back to that.

I did a custom installation, so it's very possible i missed something. But
i've installed on this exact model & config before a few times (old company
std.), without this problem. In fact, they usually perform wonderfully.

I hope this looks familiar to some of you. I dont know what to make of it
yet.
