When you say 'button on the front,' you mean the physical
button on the computer's front, right?

Have you tried pressing the 'eject' button on gtcd's
controls? (That is, position your mouse over the button on
the gtcd panel with the straight line, under the arrow
facing up, and click?)

If nothing else, you can quit out of gtcd, su to root, do
the command

ps -ef | grep cd

kill all the processes that are using the CD player, Then
either eject, or the physical eject button should work.

(My guess is that at present, you're trying to use the
'eject' command, while the CD player is under the control
of gtcd. I think if you say 'eject -v', v for verbose, then
you'll get an error like, device or resource busy.)
