In fact you can always nest one Xserver inside other:

--------8<---------
$Xnest :1 &

$export DISPLAY=:1

$fvwm
-------->8---------

The last line can be substitued by wmaker, or even startkde.
A window appears (with Xnest :1 &) where a new session can be nested.
Xnest is a bit slow but works fine.
