I tired everything to get it to work: PAP, CHAP, MSCHAP, dialing through
minicom, you name it. Nothing would work for me. I gave up.
A few weeks later I read someone on a newsgroup got it to work. I wrote and
didn't get a response but, it spurred me to try again.
I installed wvdial (previoulsy wanted to use diald for it) and set it up.
It worked right off. I tried kppp and it failed. I tried using scripts just
like ordinary login and it failed. I tried diald and minicom again and it
failed again.
I have no idea why, but wvdial works perfectly for me. I run it once a week
to keep it open because I'm currently using worldinter.net and will be
until the paid period runs out (about FEB 2001). But, it continues to work
with wvdial and continues to fail with any other thing I try.
I installed x-wvdial and use it. I would prefer to use one of the dialers
that would let my wife's pc dial through without telnetting into mine
(dialsrv, diald, connect, anything). But, this is the only combination I
can get to work.
If someone comes up with a working solution other than this, I'd love to
hear it.
BTW: the login name is <username>@freewwweb.com or it won't work at all.
