I have several months experience with Debian Linux and switched to Red
Hat 5.1 because: a) I learned Debian doesn't run several programs
without special install/configuration and b) because I have official Red
Hat 5.1 CD's. Now I've got a dialup problem.
I've installed 5.1 with networking to get Internet access. I've used the
netconfig and linuxconf to set up ppp to work the same as it did in
Debian and does in (shudder) Win95. However, when ifup ppp0 is executed
and I monitor the activity and (^M) is sent instead of my user name
being sent as a response to ogin and (~~) is sent instead of my
password. I've double checked all the files manually with vi to make
sure each has the correct data, they do, all seven of them.
Anybody have any idea what is not working correctly or know how to fix
it?
