I had this problem or one similiar to it "timeout whilst waiting for pppd
interface to come up" recently having had faultless connections. There was
no debug info in the log window so I posted a question to another newsgroup
and got refered to a webpage whose URL I cannot remember but it was a
Freeserve one (UK ISP) linux conection problem page. It made several
suggestions one of which I tried which was to alter the linefeed setting to
from CR/LF to CR (or visa versa). Whatever I did, and I'm sorry I'm not in
front of by beloved linux box at the moment, it worked, I've had no problems
since except one failure to dial. I wonder wheither it was really a problem
with my ISP (not freeserve) although normally they are incredibly reliable.
