I am planning a home network of 3 to 5 machines and
could use a little help with the planning.
I'm going to use a Win-95 box [with a multi-user server software]
for the isp dialup box
[ I know... it's not Linux but it's the plan].
The following is what I've got in mind...
[ISP]
|
V
| |=Box-1 ISP DialUp via Modem
>-----|---'56k modem'
|
|=Win-95 [ with a server s/w installed ]
|
>-----|---'NIC-1'= 192.168.127. Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
|
|
>-----|---'NIC-1'= 192.168.127.___ Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
| Box-2 THE GATEWAY for this box is BOX-1 / NIC-1 IP# ???
|=LINUX RH 6.1 [ with IPCHAINS... installed ]
>-----|---'NIC-2'= 192.168.127.___ Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
|
|
>--|==LynkSys HUB, 10BT, 5 ports
|
| THE GATEWAY for boxes below is BOX-2/NIC-2 IP# ???
|
|--Box-3, NIC-1= 192.168.127.___ Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
|
|--Box-3, NIC-1= 192.168.127.___ Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
|
|--Box-3, NIC-1= 192.168.127.___ Mask= 255.255.255.0 ?
I'm really confused as to how to number these nics.
And do I actually need two networks ?
ie... Box-1/Nic-1 to Box-2/Nic-1
and
Box-2/Nic-2 and all the rest of the boxes
I've got the two nics installed ok in Box-2.
I have not yet installed IPChains but will do so soon.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Johnny
