Probably didn't waste your money...
Not sure about whether the controller on there works, but read the
Ultra-DMA mini-HOWTO.  Section 5.1 has a piece titled Installing Linux
with the Ultra33 which describes how to determine what parameters to pass
to the kernel on bootup to get it to recognize IDE controllers beyond the
standard 2 (ide0 and ide1).  

(Even though the section is for the Promise Ultra33, it should work for
you.  I have a BP6 with the HPT-366 controller, and it worked like a charm
for me.)
