I don't know how successful you'll be. It sounds like the kernel (or
system_ is locking up on you, and if it does that, then you aren't going
to get any output.
Is there any other SCSI hardware on your system? Or is it just the
CD-RW and adaptor? Do you have any other scsi equipment around? Any
friends with SCSI equipment? The first thing I'd try is replacing
either the CD-R or BT-950, and see if there's still a problem. Or, try
that card and CD-R on a different computer, running a different
operating system. You could also try running the kernel that came with
your Linux distribution.
I used a BT-950 for some time and was very happy with it, but my CD-RW
was Yamaha.
