After upgrading Redhat 5.2 to 6.1 I've problems with the font-server. Problem 1: I have adapted my .Xdefaults file and everything looks alright for xterm, but when I start for example the printtool I see only a black and white frame (with no characters). (By the way I've installed TrueType fonts and the xfs font server is running.) I think that the system looks for a font which is defined in the .Xdefaults files for a certain application; When this is not defined in the .Xdefaults file it uses a default font. My first question is: Where is the default font defined? How can I define a default -- findable and correct -- font for all users on the system? Problem 2: Sometimes a user want to use the windows-manager of an other remote machine. This is possible with the xdm and a chooser file. When I connect to a SGI, which uses the 4Dwm window manager I have some errors concerning the color-depth and I don't see some applications because of the fact that again some fonts are missing. Does anybody have suggestions? Thanks in advance.
