Hiya - I've been scratching my head over this one for quite a while - and still have no joy :( We have a Seagate Scorpion 12/24 on our file server and use this to run overnight backups using BRU. I have the DIP switches set to enable DDS-DC hardware compression I've also tried using mt to enable compression (datcompression on) and all sorts of other tricks. mt datcompression reports "compression on" and I can set it to off successfully so I assume that it's reading / writing the compression status properly? Problem is that no matter what I try I can not get hardware compression to work. A test that we suggested by est's tech support dept was to do: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nst0 which should cause very little activity on the DAT drive if hardware compression is enabled as the string of zeros sent to the tape drive should be compressed very effectively. unfortunately my tape drive goes into overdrive, and when I eventually kill the dd command I find that the tape is at the same block number as the number of blocks written by dd. So - I'm wondering if anyone on the list can tell me a little about their setup if you're getting DDS-DC compression to work with your drive. I'm using Redhat 6.0 with mt-st-0.5b-6 and the latest firmware installed on the Seagate (supplied by their tech dept today) thanks in advance, dan. ps. does anyone know how I can send a scsi reset command with linux? ----- Nitro - 3D Visualisation, Graphics & Animation Ph (+61 2) 9810 5177 - Fx (+61 2) 9810 0199 http://www.nitro.com.au/ -- To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
