Yes there is. I don't recall the syntax, but there is an option for gs
that causes it to lessen the density of ink it applies. I ran into this
in one of the HOWTO files in the /usr/do/HOWTO directory. It may have been
near some information about the Epson Stylus printers. (This particular option
is generic.) If you use the print tool off of the contorl-panel app, then
select your printer, edit, and in the lower right corner is a blank to put
additional option to gs. When you find the command in the howtos, you'll enter
it in this blank.
