I'm unable to set the timezone in RH6.1.
Currently:
[root@localhost /root]# date
Wed Mar 8 22:53:13 EST 2000
I live in Los Angeles, and as far as I can remember the correct timezone
has been enabled previously. The other night I noteced an email header
indicating 'EST' instead of 'PST', and I've been trying to correct it ever
since. The date and time is correct, in the BIOS as well, only the
timezone is wrong.
As 'root', I open 'linuxconf' and go into the date and time functions.
At this point, the 'timezone' input window is blank. Shouldn't it say
something? So, I select "America/Los Angeles" and hit the "Accept"
button. If at this point, I select some other 'linuxconf' category for
just a look see, and then immediately come back to the time and date
functions the selected timezone has disappeared.
If I select "America/Los Angles" and 'accept' then exit 'linuxconf',
accepting options to reconfigure system no changes are made to the system.
So is there some way to set the timezone manually?
Where does RH6.1 keep the timezone info?
Looking at 'man tzset', all files mentioned do not exist on my system,
except for '/etc/localtime', which is binary.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get the timezone set correctly?
On my RH6.1 system, all core programs have been updated using the RH
update agent and are current.
Help!
Thanx.
