Hi, I'm trying to build a boot disk up from scratch to suite some of my own
needs as well as to learn a little more about the way a basic linux system
functions. Anyway, I read the howto on this and everything has gone well so
far (I now have a working boot disk). However, I wanted to include ping on the
disk and I am having problems with it.

When I issue ping at the command promt it returns:

ping: unkown protocol icmp

I doubled checked, but I do have the /etc/protocols file and icmp if defined in
it so that can't be the problem. Also I have /dev/inet/* which includes an
icmp device file (though I do not know what this does).

What else do I need to get ping to work (I do of course have all the libraries
for it). Can anyone tell me what else I might be missing???

Thanks
