You must have forgotten your passwords.  Reboot and at the LILO prompt, type
"linux single".
Once you get a shell prompt (bash#), type "passwd".  Reset your root
password.  Enter and confirm passwords.  Then type "adduser jimmie."  Then
"passwd jimmie."  Enter and confirm passwords.  "reboot"

You should be able to login as either user then...
