Netscape configuration

I don't have a clue how to set up Netscape in my new RH 6.1.

I set up all the required info thru RP3 and config tools and can
make a connection to my ISP thru the dialup config tool using
debug. It then disconnects and dials again.

RH PPP dialer doesn't dial and Netscape gives an error messsage
"you may have to set the $SOCKS_NS variable". What and where is
that?

Netscape help is only post-connection.
